15 million euros equipment insured is the value of the equipment that Cologne-based start-up Gearo insured through HDI Versicherung AG. The online platform developed by founders Paul Peeters (left) and Max Heere gives the site’s users the opportunity to offer their own camera and filming equipment on the website or alternatively to hire it out for projects.

The site offers single-lens reflex cameras, lenses, film equipment and even drones. The company is following the trend of sharing offers such as Airbnb in holiday apartments and car-sharing offers. Gearo is one of many start-ups to be insured by HDI since 2016. The insurance covers damage like scratches on displays or lenses, damage from splashing water and theft.
