HDI-Gerling acquires Dutch property/casualty insurer

HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG, Hannover, Germany, is to acquire the Dutch property/casualty insurer Nassau Verzekering Maatschappij N.V. with retroactive effect as at 30.09.2010.

Nassau Verzekering Maatschappij N.V. is headquartered in Rotterdam with branches and offices in Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, Paris, and Copenhagen. The company is a leading niche insurer concentrating in the Netherlands and beyond on special insurance branches like professional liability, D&O covers and crisis management. Its end customers are small and mid-sized enterprises. Employing around 160 staff, the company generated a premium volume of EUR 106 million in 2010.

"With this acquisition we are pursuing our strategy of internationalization. We are reinforcing our position in the Dutch market and completing our range of services in important specialty lines in the Netherlands and in other European markets", Dr. Christian Hinsch, Chief Executive Officer of HDI-Gerling Industrie Versicherung AG, explained.
