Divisions

The Talanx Group and its companies operate in a number of primary insurance and reinsurance areas, in both the property/casualty and the life business. The Group bases its clear and efficient structure for customers and investors on four operational customer divisions. These are Industrial Lines, Retail Germany, Retail International and Reinsurance, with the latter encompassing both the Property/Casualty and the Life/Health businesses. In addition, the Group is active in the field of asset management, which is assigned to the Corporate Operations segment.

Talanx Divisions

Talanx AG is the financial and management holding company that heads the Group. It ensures that the Group’s primary goal – sustainable profitable growth – is achieved. Talanx AG manages the Group by raising and allocating capital, defining targets, measuring performance and establishing appropriate incentive schemes. At the same time, it is responsible for optimising the Group’s organisational and capital structures. Talanx AG has its own staff functions within Corporate Operations that implement the measures derived from its strategic objectives and perform its operating activities. These functions aim to systematically steer and monitor the Group, and hence to ensure its development.

Industrial Lines

The Industrial Lines Division is headed by HDI Global SE. The company is active in more than 175 countries through subsidiaries and network partners. In Germany, HDI Global SE offers the full range of individual customer support services at 11 locations across the country.

As an internationally active industrial insurer, HDI Global SE supports its clients at home and abroad by providing bespoke solutions that are optimally attuned to the needs of its customers. The range of products and services extends from liability, motor, accident, fire and property insurance down to transport and aviation, financial lines and engineering cover. Corporate and industrial clients in Germany and abroad profit from its decades of experience in risk assessment and risk management, since the complex risks to which industry and middle-market businesses are exposed require special protection. Comprehensive insurance solutions are realised using individually tailored coverage plans, offering the full range of products to protect against business risks. Just as importantly, HDI Global SE’s many years of experience and proven expertise enable it to provide professional claims management that can deliver immediate assistance worldwide in the event of loss or damage.

Retail Germany

The Retail Germany Division covers the activities of all companies serving retail customers in the areas of property/casualty insurance, life insurance and bancassurance in Germany. It is headed by HDI Deutschland AG.

The division offers German retail customers insurance protection that fits their needs. The range of products extends from property cover through the full range of retirement provision lines down to end-to-end solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises and members of the liberal professions. It has a wide range of sales channels at its disposal, from its own tied agents’ organisation through independent intermediaries and non-exclusive agents down to direct sales and cooperative ventures with bancassurance partners.

The division's functional organisation ensures clear responsibilities and provides a platform for transcending the previous boundaries between the property/ and life insurance lines. This overarching perspective is a vital prerequisite for improving processes and services to the benefit of our customers.

Retail International

The Retail International Division is home to those companies whose business involves serving retail customers in the areas of property insurance, life insurance and bancassurance in foreign markets. Present in 11 countries and with more than 20 million clients, the division is headed by HDI International AG.

Retail International offers comprehensive, tailored insurance protection for retail customers abroad. The product range encompasses offerings for motor insurance, property/casualty, marine, fire and life insurance, among other things. Its experienced, highly skilled management team and the strong underwriting expertise of its local staff form the backbone of HDI International AG.

Drawing on local. industry-specific know-how and the presence offered by its extended sales network, the Retail International Division is able to identify the specific needs of customers abroad and offer them bespoke solutions.

Reinsurance

Almost all activities of the Talanx Group's Reinsurance Division are performed by the Hannover Re Group. One of the world’s leading reinsurance groups, it has business ties with more than 5,000 insurance companies on all continents. The company’s network comprises more than 100 subsidiaries, branches and representative offices worldwide. It transacts all lines of property/casualty and life/health reinsurance. The Group’s German business is performed by its subsidiary E+S Rück.

Property/casualty reinsurance is the traditional area in which Hannover Re first began doing business in 1966. The reinsurer offers its clients a comprehensive product range of treaty and facultative reinsurance business and is also one of the leading providers of structured reinsurance solutions. Hannover Re attaches great importance to a widely diversified portfolio, which is largely written centrally in Hannover with the support of its many branches and representative offices worldwide.

The Life/Health Reinsurance segment bundles all activities relating to life, annuity and health reinsurance. The Hannover Re Group also writes accident reinsurance business here, to the extent that this is transacted by life insurers. The operational units are based at 25 locations on all continents, so to offer clients an optimal local service.

Corporate Operations

In addition to HDI AG – the employer company for the Talanx Group – the Corporate Operations segment includes the Group’s internal reinsurance broker, Talanx Reinsurance Broker GmbH (Talanx Re Broker) and its asset management activities.

Talanx Re Broker is the professional reinsurance advisor and intermediary for non-life reinsurance cessions. Ampega Asset Management GmbH and Ampega Investment GmbH perform asset management. The focus here is on the operating subsidiaries within the Talanx Group, with Ampega Investment GmbH also performing services for non-Group third parties.

As the employer company for the Talanx Group, HDI AG is responsible for enhancing efficiencies within the Group by bundling and standardising activities. It focuses on customer orientation and boosting profitability, which it achieves by continuously enhancing internal processes, for example. HDI AG’s IT segment provides IT services for the Talanx Group. With more than 1,000 employees at the sites in Hannover, Cologne, Hilden and Hamburg, it bundles IT services for the Retail Germany and Industrial Lines divisions, plus IT services for Corporate Operations and the asset management companies.
